Helicopter Takeoff

by Matt Faulkner on May 1, 2009

Last night we were able to see this helicopter take off from less than 100 feet away. It was something I haven’t ever seen this close up – and my daughter really enjoyed it as well!

The White Canadian Goose

by Matt Faulkner on April 22, 2009

in Other Notes

It might be hard to see but this is a picture of a white Canadian goose with a brown colored neck. It’s been around for a couple of years but I haven’t ever snaped a picture. Has anyone seen a goose colored like this?

Beer and Flip Flops – The Perfect Match

by Matt Faulkner on April 19, 2009

in Other Notes

I just updated some hardware for this summer – after my last pair made it 3 summers!

The first pair of was bought on a 'spur of the moment' trip to the mall while they were on clearance, but it was one of the best purchases ever made.  They are a little pricey at about $40 bucks, but if you spread that over 3 years like the last ones, it's worth the money (at least for me – you'll see why).  The best part about the summer footwear you might ask??

Beer opener!!

On the bottom of these flip flops is a custom made bottle opener!  I always have a way to open that cold brew!  Just a quick lift of the foot (and a quick glance to make sure it's clean) and I have an open bottle of my fav suds.  It might take a few tries, but after you get the hang of it, it's smooth sailing each time.  Below is a picture of the replacements so you can check them out!!

Purchase To Reconsider

by Matt Faulkner on April 17, 2009

in Other Notes

I put this on Twitter the other day, but just wanted to put it on the blog as well. There just really is something wrong with pulling this off the roll… Who would make the call to put cute puppies on toilet paper?

GIS Only Feed Added

by Matt Faulkner on March 29, 2009

in GIS, Other Notes

I really need a place to ramble about things that I am doing, things that I see and just a spot to call my own – that’s where this site fits.  I also need a place to talk GIS – that’s going to be this place as well…

But, I have realize that some people might want to filter out some of the “Me” stuff and only get the GIS stuff.  I have created a feed that if you want, will only be the GIS stuff.

Why not start another blog?  Why not add a sub-domain?  Well, I want people to know the real me in addition to the GIS side.  Plus, right now with the traffic I get on this site now it doesn’t really matter at all…  But, hopefully with my new blogging plan (going to try and implement this week) things might be a little more consistant in my entire web posting world all around.  With this new bloggign plan, expect more on this site in the GIS domain.

Test post from Wordpress on the iphone

by Matt Faulkner on March 23, 2009

I am testing out the mobile Wordpress client for the iPhone. One feature that makes the grade is the landscape keyboard. Still more digging to come but at least this is a start!

I also added a photo, let’s see what that does…

I don’t have Verizon as a cell phone company (neither does my wife), but I do have a Google Voice account.  So this might not work, but it could…

Today I heard a commercial for the “5 Numbers on any network for free unlimited calling” and thought to myself how you might be able to ‘play the system’ a little using Google Voice.

Let’s just use this example – Say my wife wanted to choose numbers to call for her ‘Free 5′ that includes me (I would hope) and some of her friends…  but she wanted to get me at work, home and cell for free…

  1. My Cell
  2. My Work
  3. Our Home
  4. Jenny
  5. Jane

That’s quite a few of her 5 taken up just by me :) .  So, let’s do this, add Google Voice into the mix.

  1. My Google Voice Number – Ring my Cell, Work and Home all together
  2. Jenny
  3. Jane
  4. New Open Number
  5. New Open Number

Look at that – You can now add 2 more numbers to your ‘Free 5′ on Verizon!!

I’m sure there could be more done than just this simple example, I’ll let you play on it some more.  This might actually have a little more impact when Google Voice opens up to more people.
