I have completed my first few steps on what I’ll call project SS. My new project for 2009.
First thing I want to talk about is why I wanted to do Project SS (SS only from now on). I wanted to get better at something that I am not very good at doing – talking on video. I do quite a few videos over on GottaBeMobile.com, but still haven’t become at home in front of the camera. I don’t know why, but I just haven’t. So, doing SS will give me a chance to do something different, even if I fail, behind the camera on a regular basis without the fear messing up. If I mess up, or look like an idiot, I don’t have to worry about doing it for anybody else of having an effect on other team members – just myself.
First thing I did a while back was to grab a domain name for my new little project. I picked up a domain after I thought about what I wanted to do with SS and whent off looking. Finding a good domain name these days really sucks… and if a good one is found it’s usually parked by someone doing nothing. These can be had, but for a price, a price I can’t afford. I settled on a domain name that wasn’t half bad and picked it up from Godaddy.
I have a domain name… now what. These are the things I have done so far.
SS had to get all hooked up on social network sites – Twitter FriendFeed ect… I am going to have to be social in these days.
SS is going to be about video – I registered on many sites like YouTube, Vimeo, Blip ect. to publish all my videos across many platforms.
Registered at TubeMogul – send all my crap off using one tool – Very cool idea btw thanks to @garyvee while listening to Le Web
Pick out a theme – I will be using Wordpress as I have become decent (or at least comfortable with using it) in figuring things out and changing up some of the CSS and writing some PHP. Again, I didn’t have a whole lot of money but wanted to get a nice video based theme – I picked one up for under 80 bucks that does what I need it to do. I didn’t want to sink a whole lot of money into a project just to have it waste away as a trial.
Now it’s off to video – currently I am working on putting together an intro and outro for the videos – something I can use for each video without a whole lot of editing each time.
That’s about it for now on SS – I’ll talk more as I get things going . It’s not going to start up in the next couple of days or anything, but it will be soon.
