There was a time a while back when I was looking for something to start doing on my own time to expand my knowledge. I thought it was going to be some Ruby work, but that has now changed.
The new ‘thing’ for my free time is now FLEX or Flex – however you want to put it…
My quest started when I saw the new Flex API with ESRI being released. This got me going a little in checking things out with ESRI and other mapping APIs. I started digging into the Flex API and created a few basic connections and maps. I even created a basic map for the first time using AIR connected up to Google. Once I started looking I found some really cool stuff that could be done using Flex, not only in mapping but in other ways as well.
Then it was time to step back a few… I want to know HOW it works, not just how to hack a map together using examples and others code. I wanted to build it myself while really digging into FlexBuilder and the meat behind it.
So, now I am deep into a couple of books, online training and dev sites to pass the free time I have (work for the past 2 weeks though has really kept me from doing much of anything…). One book is finished and another was started last night.
I’ll post more as I get further into learning and start actually doing a more than samples and small applicaions.
